Accessible and inclusive education
Right to education
Everyone has the right to a good education. In doing so, the Equal Treatment Act stipulates that no distinction may be made. As a college or university, you can contribute to this by making the building accessible to students with visual impairments. The eZwayZ app offers the solution.
But not only visually impaired people can use the app, all students will be happy with the app. How often do you see students wandering the corridors unable to find the classroom? That will soon be a thing of the past.
The app is AVG compliant and management is easy.
NHL Stenden Hogeschool implemented the app.
Independence
NHL Stenden has all kinds of facilities and guidance for students with what they call ‘a functional impairment’. To increase the independence of visually impaired students, it was decided to implement the eZwayZ app.
You can now navigate to the main parts of the main and auxiliary building containing a number of lecture halls, auditorium, plaza, shops, library and restaurants using eZwayZ.
Working method
After scanning the building, a 3D model was created using the so-called ‘point cloud’. In the eZwayZ cloud management module, all destinations, navigation paths and other Points of Interest (POIs) were added, e.g. lecture halls, library, auditorium, toilets and restaurants. Should anything change later, the building administrator can change it himself in the management module.
After a round of testing with a number of target students, the app was implemented within a few weeks.
Extra modules added
Public Transport
With the addition of the Public Transport module, students only need 1 app to get to NHL. This module provides up-to-date public transport departure times and navigates students to the correct bus stop or platform. This module is kept up-to-date by eZwayZ. NHL does not have to do anything for this.
Visitors
NHL chose to add the visitor module as well. By adding information about how big the room is, what is in the room, or what colours are used, the student gets an impression of where they are. NHL manages this module in-house with the eZwayZ cloud. This makes adding or changing information easy.
