Accessibility as a priority
In practice
Visually impaired officials work in almost all ministries and other government departments. Practice shows that, despite available aids (such as magnification or Braille), the visually impaired civil servant encounters barriers that sighted colleagues do not experience. Consider a change of workplace or finding a meeting room.
The solution
The eZwayZ app provides the solution here. Indeed, the app allows a visually impaired official to find the meeting rooms, go to the toilet or find their desk by themselves. With complex buildings, by the way, all officials benefit from the app. No one will be late for an appointment anymore!
Municipality of Heemstede (NL) preceded you.
Multifunctional
Plein1 is the Heemstede municipality's multi-functional building. All kinds of facilities have a place here: work, care, welfare, education, childcare, safety and culture. There is room everywhere to read, study or work. So it is very important that the building is accessible to everyone. The introduction of the eZwayZ app was not a question of if, but of when.
Because the app also increases accessibility for the illiterate and people with anxiety disorders, the introduction ensures that Plein 1 can provide a place of connection for all Heemstede residents.
Implementation
After scanning the building, a 3D model was created using the so-called ‘point cloud’. In the eZwayZ cloud management module, all destinations, navigation paths and other Points of Interest (POIs) were added, e.g. reading tables, toilets and the café.
Should anything change later, the building manager can change it himself in the management module. After a round of testing with the target group, the app will be implemented within a few weeks.
Accessibility and inclusiveness are important issues for the government. Especially since they have an exemplary role there.
Extra modules
With the addition of the Public Transport module, officials and visitors need only one app to get to the office. This module provides up-to-date public transport departure times and navigates you to the right bus stop or platform. This module is kept up-to-date by eZwayZ.
With the Visitors module, the building comes to life. Someone with a visual impairment gets a ‘seeing’ experience. By adding information about how big the room is, what is in the room, or what colours are used, the official gets an impression of where they are. Welcome messages, for example, can also be added. You control the management of this module with the eZwayZ cloud. This makes adding or changing information easy.
